Peter Life in an Annex

Life in an Annex

In 1942 the German people invaded Amsterdam and set new rules for the Jewish people. They had to hide from the German people because they were hunting them down and if you were caught hiding you would be persecuted or they would send you to a concentration camp.

The annex was quiet except for the chirping birds outside the food bowls was cold, the walls were faded, the food ran out quickly, the stairs were steep and narrow and the days got quieter and quieter. The apartment is very small and cramped. A map that is aligned with the wall there is a book shelf as the door to the annex. The attic is very cold and dusty. You can hear sirens blaring in every corner explosions from left to right.

  • We are reading the book ‘Diary of Anne Frank’. Mrs Anderson created a Gemini Gem to prompt us to think more deeply about what life would have been like in the annex, what we felt and why we felt that way.
  • I enjoyed using the Gem because it helped me by using words that people can understand.

Peter-The Kia Ora lady.

  • We read about Dame Naida Glavish, a wahine toia who choice to greet callers with “Kia Ora” instead of “Hello.” Her one action led to a massive change in New Zealand’s cultural identity.
  • We think Dame Naida Glavish was an agent of change because she wanted to spread the maori language around new zealand because people was speaking only english.

Kia ora, my name is Peter. I am in year 7 at Panmure Bridge School. I am very excited to be in LS2 this year because of the new learning that I will be doing.

My favourite things to do are math and literacy. At home I like playing board games with my family. My goal for this amazing year is to improve in all subjects and to finish all of my uncompleted work.

I am very excited to be learning in LS2 with Mrs Fisi’iahi and Mrs Anderson.
